I'm Malinda, and
I want to spend my life
talking about death.

ABOUT

I’m a compassionate and dedicated writer who believes in the importance of candid conversations around death. I see it as one of the greatest acts of love we can show one another—whether by sharing our end-of-life wishes or offering a listening ear to someone who is grieving. Both in-person and on the page, I advocate for what I call a “good death.”My background includes studying death and dying at universities in the US and Ireland, caring for individuals at home to ensure they could pass peacefully in their own surroundings, and working in healthcare at a Level 1 trauma hospital, where the fragility of life was a daily reminder. I’ve experienced firsthand the profound difficulty that comes when wishes are unknown or time slips away before the important things are said. After saying the hardest of goodbyes to both of my parents, I invited grief into my life as if it were the most noble of dinner guests—sitting with it, listening, and learning from it—in hopes that I could one day hold space for others when they need it most. From attending death cafes to hosting grief dinner parties, I continue to explore death, develop a deeper understanding, and build community with others who are either in mourning or “death curious.”I currently write about grief, sympathy, and remembrance for publications like Harry & David, 1-800-Flowers, and Edible Columbus, as well as for funeral homes and individuals seeking help to express heartfelt tributes and memories.
